What an AI bookkeeper is

An “AI bookkeeper” usually means software (or a service backed by software) that helps categorize expenses, match bank feeds, draft invoices and flag odd transactions, so you spend less time in the spreadsheet.

DIY + AI features

FreshBooks, QuickBooks Online, Xero. You stay in the driver’s seat.

Service + AI under the hood

Pilot. A human team does the books for you.

Honest caveats

  • Ratings are snapshots. The Capterra numbers were taken from search snippets on Oct 13, 2026. They move, so check before you buy.
  • Start prices can be wrong for your plan. Where it says “not verified,” I left the number out on purpose.
  • “AI” on the box ≠ done-for-you. Software does not replace judgment.
  • Newer tools got cut. Docyt, Booke AI and Digits lacked review data or a confirmed affiliate path.

FAQ

Will an AI bookkeeper replace my bookkeeper?

Probably not on its own. Most of these tools still need you (or a bookkeeper) to review categories, reconcile accounts and close the month. Pilot is the exception here because it’s a service with people behind it.

Which one is cheapest?

I only have start prices for two: QuickBooks Online at about $38/mo and Pilot at about $199/mo, both from Capterra listings. FreshBooks and Xero prices weren’t verified, so check their official sites.

Why isn’t Docyt, Booke AI or Digits on the list?

They were cut for missing review data or no confirmed affiliate path. Quality before payout.

Are these affiliate links?

Not yet. Every button goes to the tool’s official site. If that changes, this page will say so.
